The Counts Choiseul-Gouffier administered the Plateliai Manor for 143 years. Four generations of this family lived here until 1940 when the wooden manor house was burnt down during the Second World War. One of the remaining buildings, the stone masonry granary of the 19th century, is the most attractive to the visitors. Traditional craft center in the cellar of Plateliai manor

In the Soviet times, the cellar of Plateliai Manor was used as a warehouse for fertilizers. Later, the upper floor was erected and turned into a hotel, and the cellar was used as a café for some time.
Presently, the cellar of Plateliai Manor is home to the Traditional Craft Center with premises for arts and crafts workshops, exhibitions, seminars and various other events. There is a brick oven for baking bread, a loom, several sets of chisels for wood carving, an edgestone, a mobile forge and other necessary equipment.

Long ago, Lake Plateliai did not exist. There were dry land and endless hayfields instead of water, until one summer, a small black piglet came seemingly out of nowhere and started uprooting all the fields in a surprisingly consistent manner as if it was marking the borders! The piglet worked hard for three weeks until it dug around the entire hollow, and then, having reached the starting point, it just disappeared.
